Pilates for Injuries & Pathologies (In Studio & Online)

This three-day certificate course presents a Physical Therapy approach to working with clients who have injuries, physical limitations, or movement dysfunctions

Presenters: Samantha Wood

Focusing primarily on the cervical and lumbar spine, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and foot, the course covers functional anatomy, biomechanics and a review of current literature.

Specific injuries and pathologies, such as disc disease, post-surgical conditions, rotator cuff syndrome, tendinopathies and osteoarthritis, are examined. Students learn about precautions and/or contraindications for these conditions, as well as exercise options and modifications to the original BASI Pilates repertoire. Course participants learn safe ways to work with clients who suffer from some of the most commonly encountered pathologies and injuries, via lectures, discussions, demonstrations and practice.

This course is offered in three formats:

  • Learn modifications to original exercises and/or new exercises appropriate for clients with shoulder or hip issues.

DAY 3
July 28, 2024

  • Review anatomy, biomechanics, and current literature related to the knee, foot and ankle.
  • Learn precautions and/or contraindications for common knee, foot and ankle pathologies.
  • Understand which exercises from the Pilates repertoire are appropriate for specific injuries/pathologies.
  • Learn modifications to original exercises and/or new exercises appropriate for clients with knee, foot and/or ankle issues.

Advanced and Continuing Education Refund Policy

If you cancel three weeks or more prior to the program start date, tuition may be transferred to a future education course or workshop of your choice at BASI Pilates, within one year of purchase (minus the non-refundable, non-transferable $100 administration fee).

With less than three weeks’ notice before the program start date, the tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable, since your enrollment and attendance were deciding factors in planning whether the workshop would take place.

BASI Pilates Teacher Training: Foundation

BASI Pilates offers top-level Pilates Teacher Training. The Foundation Program is the place to begin your Pilates career.

Presenters: Brandon Douglas Gamble

The Foundation Program gives students a solid base for teaching Mat Pilates and a thorough introduction to exercises on the Reformer, Ped-a-pul, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair.

A certificate for the Comprehensive Program is awarded after completion of both the Foundation and Graduate Programs. However, Pilates Mat Teacher Training is part of the Foundation Program, and completion of this program allows students to pursue a Mat Pilates teaching certificate or continue on to the Graduate Program.

BASI’s Foundation Program prepares students for the Graduate Program as it is a prerequisite. The Foundation Program consists of six modules (see Schedule tab), which include lectures, discussion, exercise analysis, and exercise practice.

Students are encouraged to begin their hours during the Foundation Program.

Please note: The Foundation Program includes the Mat Program.

MODULE 4 – POSTURE ASSESSMENT

MODULE 5 – CORE STRENGTH: BACK AND ABDOMINALS

Primary concepts covered are core strength and the relationship of the various muscle groups that make up the core with particular focus on the abdominals and the back extensors. Contraindications, effective exercises and the importance of understanding your client’s needs and body type are discussed. Also addressed are the role of the teacher and the importance of flow in a session. Repertoire taught includes advanced Mat, intermediate Reformer, and Arm Chair. A one-hour mat class is taught.

MODULE 6 – EXERCISE ADAPTATION

Primary concepts include an in-depth look into exercise adaptation and the use of assists and modifications. Lecture focuses on how to construct a complete and comprehensive program. Repertoire taught is advanced Mat, intermediate Reformer, fundamental Wunda Chair and Magic Circle. A one-hour mat class is taught. A general review of the repertoire is conducted and the online Written Examination is available at the end of the program.

If BASI does not accept your Application or if you cancel thirty (30) or more days prior to the start of the first module, we shall, as soon as possible, refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Administration Fee.

Your enrollment into a program is a deciding factor as to whether the program would run as scheduled. Therefore if you cancel fewer than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the first module, then within thirty (30) days of receiving your cancellation request, we will refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Initial Deposit (including the Administration Fee).

We shall not be obligated to refund any monies if you cancel at any time following commencement of the first module of any program (whether or not you attend that or any other module).

We reserve the right to cancel any program. If a program is cancelled and a replacement is not offered, we will refund all monies paid by you to us.

Transfers

Pilates Mat Teacher Training is the perfect vehicle for learning the principles of the Pilates Method. It is affordable, easy to integrate into different settings, and a great way to introduce people to Pilates. At BASI we regard Pilates Mat Work as the “crown jewel” of Pilates.

The Mat Program provides a thorough education in the Pilates Mat Work and its infinite applications. It is also the perfect springboard to the Comprehensive Programs that are offered in the U.S. and globally. The Mat Program is taught as a part of the Comprehensive Program and is the same curriculum for U.S. and international students.

This program is comprised of 24 hours of lecture, discussion, and exercise practice and exercise analysis divided into six modules.

BASI Pilates Teacher Training: Graduate

The Graduate Program is for students who have completed the Foundation Program and wish to gain comprehensive knowledge of Pilates on all the Pilates apparatus, including Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ped-a-pul, Ladder Barrel, Step Barrel, BASI’s proprietary F2 System® and various other Auxiliary apparatus.

BASI’s Graduate Program is the 2nd half of the Comprehensive program and consists of six modules, which includes lectures, discussions, exercise analysis and practice. To receive a BASI Comprehensive Certificate, students will have completed the Foundation and Graduate programs along with 500 hours: self-practice (200 hours), observation (100 hours), practice teaching (200 hours), passed the mid-term and final written exams, and submitted a Student Paper. Additionally there is an in-person teaching assessment and practical examination.

The Graduate Program is an enduring foundation for a career in Pilates, with graduates qualified to teach up to advanced level students on the full complement of standard Pilates equipment.

Primary concepts covered are the meaning of balance, and the implications of imbalances in strength and flexibility. Primary concepts covered are the structure and function of the shoulder region. The shoulder joint, muscles of the shoulder, and the importance of correct shoulder mechanics are presented. MODULE 4 – PROGRAM DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Primary concepts covered are the principles of training, such as overload, specificity and reversibility. Components of physical fitness are addressed and analyzed. MODULE 5 – SPECIFIC POPULATIONS PART 1

Primary concepts covered are habitual movement patterns, cross training, imbalances and setting goals. The athletic population is looked at closely. Lecture focuses on teaching methodologies. Repertoire taught includes intermediate- and advanced-level work on both Ladder Barrel and Step Barrel.

MODULE 6 – SPECIFIC POPULATIONS PART 2

Primary concepts covered are based on populations with restrictions and an in-depth look at pregnancy guidelines. Lecture includes teaching men and women, different body types as well as objectives and approaches. A general review of the repertoire is conducted and the Final Written Examination is given.
